Foxy Crunchy Coconut

***
Today we had a drawing class which I wish could've been longer..! We went to the local Natural History Museum and even though you wouldn't expect a huge animal lover to get excited over mounted animals.. I was! We could pick anything in the museum and draw it.

My composition is a bit random, I didn't really get to hear the full assignment.. But I had so much fun. Just sitting and drawing there on the floor staring at pretty animals is one of my ideal ways to spend a morning.

I literally squeeled when I saw that little fox.
There were also some really neat skelletons. Unfortunately I had way too little time to draw everything I wanted (which was about the entire museum).

Talking about foxes. Look at this little cutie I got a couple of days ago! <3

Lately I've been obsessed with these three specific colors. I don't know why. They just really appeal to me right now and get me in the mood for fall (even though there's mid-summer weather going on right now :c)

Because of the hot weather I finally bought myself some Ben & Jerry's coconutterly fair ice cream. But I'm not a fan. WHAT!? It's Ben & Jerry's, it's coconut, there are caramel swirls, what could go wrong? Chocolate ice cream, that's what's wrong. I might sound crazy but I'm not a big fan of chocolate ice cream. It's boring and you can hardly taste anything you mix with it because the chocolate tastes too strong. Same here. It's like chocolate with some random crunchy stuff in it. RANDOM CRUNCHY CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM.
So now I'm melting it so I can scoop out the crunchy coconut caramel bits and pour the chocolate down the sink. Call me crazy but that's just how I roll (or scoop).

Artist Feature: Charmaine Olivia

***
Charmaine Olivia
One of the awesome things about art school: getting introduced to tons of amazing and inspiring artists. This way I also found out about this extremely talented lady. I love her work so so so much, Her paintings have a very subtle touch of strangeness. Inspired by shipwrecks, pirates, bones, animals etc. she creates some truly magical and supernatural images.
What is a “typical” work day for you like?
*Try* and wake up at a reasonable hour / hit snooze like 34 times. Once i get to my studio my day is a combination of painting, emails, updating my facebook/twitter/tumblr/blog/instagram/etc etc etc, taking obsessive pictures of my jewelry, more painting, more iphone-ing, and lots of snacking. i'm like really snacky. I've also been playing some world of warcraft again ahahha. It's weirdly inspiring.

Check her out at her official website or her Tumblr!

Today I went out to the market to take pictures for photography class. I had been putting this off for ages, but decided today would be the day.

I didn't take a single picture.
All I did was think: 'That would make a good picture!' and then I passed it by without even touching my camera. I really don't understand why I'm so terrified of taking pictures in public when I'm by myself. In my head people will throw things at me and yell at me when I take their picture. Or maybe that's just what I would do.

So all I really did was buy some sparkly nailpolish and then rushed home to paint my nails a sparkly lavender and feel shitty about not taking any photos.

The funny thing is, I don't think I'd have this problem if someone would come with me. I just don't want to go into town by myself these days. I haven't really been bothered by the fact I was alone up until I went back to school again. It makes me unable to do anything. All I do is hang around feeling sorry for myself and checking my phone and computer every 2 minutes.

And now I'm here sitting on the floor drawing myself on a giant German shepherd and eating chocolate sprinkles because I'm trying to cut down my daily sugar intake and banned myself from buying any new sugary goodness for now. Don't want to get chubby too on top of everything.

Tonight is a new Doctor Who episode and all I really want is to watch it with my head on your chest. But we both know that's not gonna happen for a long time.

End of my ramblings.

School is fun

***
This is an assignment just finished for school and I'm so excited about how it turned out! We had to write about all the creative things we did so far in our lives and what our plans for the future are. So I wrote a poem and illustrated it.

Yes I had tiny red curls when I was little. :)

I also found out we are going to some awesome exhibitions during our school trip to Germany. I'm really excited about the 'Samurai, Star Actors and Beautiful Women' exhibition at Museum Kunstpalast with Japanese color woodcuts by Kunisada and Kuniyoshi and the Anime! High art - pop culture Expo at a Museum in Bonn. And Cologne itself looks so pretty. I hope they'll have some delicious German pie.

Have a fangtastic day

***
My mom is the sweetest. Look at this adorably awesome card she sent me!
You can even fold it out and have four fangtastic plushies smile at you.
Nothing that makes me smile more than cute mail. I even put up a line over my table to hang my cards on. (Lets hope it won't come down AGAIN)
Most adorable Moomin card I received from Alexandra!
I hope snail mail will never ever die.

The Travelling Bunny

***
This is a piece I did for school. We got the subject 'The Traveller' and had to create something in any medium or style we're comfortable with. So naturally I went for a bunny, glitter and sparkle! I love my school for re-introducing me to ink! It looks so much nice than marker.
A little peek in my sketchbook:
Yes I kind of raided the entire kid's toys catalogue (I want one of those kitties!)
I liked the bunny with the map too.. but it was too late!
This Wednesday I'll be doing my first screen print! We had to design something that would make our life easier, so I did spectacle wipers c: Can't wait to see how the actual print will turn out.

Playlist while working on all of this (on repeat)
I never heard this song before! Why?? It's so fun. And the part where Belle and the Beast are reading is so cute. It makes me want to read a story to someone.

Mushroom Hunting

***
This post will mainly consist of mushrooms. Last weekend I went home again after four (or maybe five?) weeks of living by myself in the big city. It was so good. 'It' mainly being delicious homecooked meals (somehow when you cook just for yourself every day it just doesn't taste as good anymore after a while..).

Now on to the mushrooms!
My mum and I went for a hike as it was perfect in between summer and fall weather. The mushrooms got better and better as our hike progressed. We started off with this crappy half eaten one..

Hmmm slightly better

I figured this is what a stadium for gnomes looks like.
Awesome out of focus mushroom with holes in it.
Now we're getting somewhere!

Mushrooms mushrooms of the fall, who's the prettiest of them all...?
This guy!
I always go crazy when I see one of these. It's the ultimate sign that fall is pretty much here. I bet a gnome broke a piece of it to cook some mushroom soup. We also got to pick lots of delicious blackberries. YES blackberries grow on trees where I'm from. Or on bushes anyway.

That's it for now. Homework is calling. We have to take lots of pictures and collages and stuff. Walking around town to take pictures made me discover this awesome playground with a real rocketship! <3

When my mom tells me to go buy a birthday card for my sis and her boyfriend this is obviously the one I pick.
I think I did some awesome decision making today.

Busy busy busy with school. It's like what I used to do every day only multiplied by ten. These are some ideas for one assignment I'm quite excited about, an illustration that expresses 'the traveler'. It can be anything from a backpacker to time traveler. My mind is overflowing with ideas...

All I need is a Hello Kitty plush and a teapot.
I'm digging the idea of space travellers. But it'll probably just stay an idea.
Yes that is a bunny walking the Great Wall of China.
I'll also be doing a lino cut, school interior ideas, an article on Evan Baden, collages inspired by 'fire'. Ohgeez help me please. But it's weird because I always used think negative about anything called 'homework', but these assignments are actually fun. So I keep procrastinating because it's called homework, but then I realize it's not all that bad.

Luckily I still have my wonderful little balcony to sit, relax and drink lots of tea and where I recently enjoyed the official last day of summer. Obviously our last day of summer is one of the hottest of the past months. Honestly.

Folk Delight by Martin Hsu

***
These days I have this very strong desire to go to California. Of course that is impossible. Pshht. But I can dream right? Anyhowwww seeing these new works by Martin Hsu which will be shown at the Seesaw gallery in San Francisco only makes me want to go there even more. Hmpf. For now I'll just admire them from a distance...
Aren't they glorious? I want to live in a world like that for ever and ever.

And ever.

August's Inspiration

***
Movies
The Hunchback of the Notre Dame
I'm trying to watch all the Disney Classics I haven't seen before. I can't believe I never watched this before. I loved it.
Going the Distance
Something Borrowed
I only watched it because John Krasinski is in it, but it turned out to be pretty sweet! Still I think that was mainly because of mr Krasinski.
Music
Aint no Rest for the Wicked - Cage the Elephant
Every Thug Needs a Lady (acoustic) - Alkaline Trio
Reminded - Tyga feat. Adele
Simple Kind of Life - No Doubt
Disney's Pocahontas Soundtrack
Book
Ape House - Sara Gruen
I might've enjoyed this book even more than Water for Elephants. I finished reading it within a week (which is quick for me!). Monkeys have been this month's animal.

Other
Foxes!
One of my new fav animals n.n I can't stop drawing them and I'm still intrigued by kitsunes.
Chinese Zodiac
I'm a huge zodiac/horoscope nerd and this month I figured out my Chinese Zodiac is a goat! It's scary how basically everything applies to me. They even say one of my perfect jobs would be illustrator. AWESOME. What zodiac sign are you?
Moomins
Cute date ideas!
I've never really been the 'romantic dinner date' or 'holding hands at the movies' kind of person. These dates sound like so much fun. Unfortunately I have no one to date here. Dawwww.
JG Quintel
I might just have a small crush on him. For those not familair with him, He is best known as the creator of Regular Show, and was the creative director for Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. He's the voice actor for Mordecai on Regular Show and I was amazed to find out Mordecai is even cute in real life! AND did anyone know Mark Hamill a.k.a Luke Skywalker is a voice actor on Regular Show too!? He's Skips!
