Art Update: Pyrex Pretties & some magic.

Recently I got the always exciting email from Redbubble that a design of mine got featured on their frontpage again! This is my 3rd 'Found' feature and it's always great because it helps immensely with getting some more exposure for my little shop. Anyway, I've added some new designs since my last update and I thought I'd share them with you!

This is the work that got featured. I've been super inspired by Pyrex and other vintage homeware and decor lately. Cups, tables, chairs.. you name it! I've been pinning like crazy on Pinterest.

My boyfriend and I have been rewatching Harry Potter again and it inspired my to make some potterhead artwork. They're available on a bunch of products, but I think they're the cutest on cups :)

I love Bobby Pins. They keep my hair in place AND make for a great pattern! This was just a quick design a threw together when I just bought a bunch of them after loosing yet again half of what I owned.

I love puns and using them in my work and always looking for new ones to work with. When I thought of this one I knew right away it needed to happen! I bring you your new staple piece: the tea shirt!

Panda Snacks by Prouddaydreamer

And last but not least... Panda Snacks! This is kind of like stuff I used to make a few years ago. Lots of kawaii and cuteness. Sometimes it's nice to go back to that. I love pandas, I love food.. I made this more for myself than other people. I think the sushi panda's are my favourite!

In the next few weeks I have some freelance work coming up that I unfortunately probably won't be able to share, but either way I'm happy that I get to work together with other people and work on fun projects with them :) Sometimes I need projects like this to motivate me again and really focus on something and get inspired by other people's ideas and inspiration. 

Art Update: Book Love and Retro Pretties

I made a new banner for my blog! I really like how it came out and I think it'll stay like this for a while. My previous one was a little too unpersonal for my taste and I feel like this one fits me a lot better! I figured with a new blog banner I might as well share some of my other latest artsy creations with you all. I feel like I`m starting to get better and better at incorporating things I love and that inspire me into my work.

The flamingo pattern is my personal favourite! It instantly puts me in a summery mood and makes me dream of sipping a strawberry milkshake in a polka dot bikini by the pool. Ever since the new year started I`ve felt a surge of new creative energy! Every day I look at blogs from other talented ladies and it just pushes me a bit more every day. Happy Monday!!

Art Update: Creativi-tea

Hi Everyone! I Just wanted to share some artsy things I made in the past few days!
Whenever I'm out of inspiration/motivation I resort to the things I love most. Like tea :) 

I'm not necessarily the biggest Star Wars fan (I only just watched the movies this year!) but my boyfriend is and I guess his excitement for the new movie is contagious! I have a bunch of 'punny' Star Wars sketches lying around and this is one of them..

From there I randomly came up with this cute little Hot Crocolate. This is one of my personal favourites :)

And a panda doing yoga for good measure. I've been watching too many panda videos lately.

As usual these are available as prints and lots of other products in my Redbubble shop!

If I Were To Get ATattoo

I don't think I'll ever get a tattoo. When I was younger I always wanted to get a tattoo. I always came up with tons of ideas and draw them on myself or print them and see how they'd look on my body. I never took the plunge though and honestly, I'm glad I didn't because I'm sure I would've regretted it. I'd probably be walking around with a bunch of anime/Sanrio characters on my body if I did get a tattoo at the time so yeah.....

I still like to look at tattoos though. Daydream about what it would look like, where I'd get them etc. I have very pale skin so lots of people always tell me how amazing tattoos would look on me. I do think it would suit me, but I'm just so damn picky. Subject wise there are some things I'd consider getting done would I ever be forced to get a tattoo (that would be an interesting situation). It would be a lot of similar subject matters I use in my own work. I also love neo traditional tattoos. Especially colourful ones! Here's some ideas I would consider...

As a huge tea lover, I definitely don't mind the idea of a tea themed tattoo! Also because teapots and teacups just make for very pretty designs. I adore all of the ones below..

I'm also a huge animal lover (I used to want to become a veterinarian at some point as a kid). Elephants especially hold a special place in my heart. Tattoos of little critters are gorgeous too though. I'm not scared of bugs at all, I'm fascinated by them. I would never hit a moth, a bee or any creature like that. They're so pretty and innocent if you just leave them be!

Another tattoo subject I think is timeless are flowers. Especially a classic rose is gorgeous in my opinion. It's very feminine and look lovely with a pop of colour.

These are some other random designs I love! I like nautical designs because I grew up on an island so I was surrounded by sea and beaches all the time. And how cute is that little golden snitch!? I also love those lantern designs for no other reason than that they're just really pretty.

There's so many more gorgeous tattoos out there.. it's hard not to get overwhelmed. But then again there's also a lot of terrible designs out there :P it's all about doing your research and not just going for the cheapest or closest artist. You get what you pay for!

Krita | Digital Painting. Creative Freedom

I used to hate anything digital when it came to artsy stuff. When I started art school and teachers would tell me to start playing around with software, I'd tell them I didn't need it. But at some point when we had to start making big prints, animations and such I was forced to work with it.

I still hated it. Until I didn't. Especially Adobe Illustrator was something I started using on a regular basis, and these days I still do! But recently I got a little tired of the 'neatness' illustrator gives you. So I figured I had to start working on my digital painting skills. I had always put it off because I couldn't/didn't want to pay monthly for photoshop (whyyy adobe whyyy?). Then I found out about the free photoshop like program called Krita! Let me tell you, I'm in love.

Like I said, Krita is a free program with pretty much the same digital painting options you have in Adobe Photoshop. What I also really like is that, like photoshop, you can download new brushes and the like online. I'm so happy that now I finally get to work digitally without the financial burden! So happy in fact, I actually wanted to give them some money for making my life a little easier (which I did right here at their donation page). Anyway, here are some things I've worked on so far:

This last one was so much fun to work on! I sketched the two hands seperately and then figured they went perfectly together. There are so many awesome brushes in Krita to easily create a pretty galaxy.

So if you're looking for a free alternative to photoshop, Krita is where it's at! Have you tried it before?

Art I heART: part 1.

I feel like I've been out of the loop when it comes to (re)-discovering artists. While in school we often had to research new artists, but ever since I'm not in school anymore I got a little lazy! It's a good way to stay inspired and driven though, so I decided to start this little blog series where I share some of my current favourite artworks/artists! Some I'll have more to say about than others, but hey let's get started.

Neryl Walker
Neryl Walker is definitely one of my favourite recent discoveries! I adore her colourful and retro work. Hopefully one day one of her prints will be hanging in my home.

Soey Milk
I've always adored Soey Milk's dark and romantic paintings. I love how smooth and realistic her subjects are which she often surrounds with expressive brush strokes and an almost collage style technique.

Bride of Frankenstein by Sharodactyl

I'm a sucker for anything pop culture and kawaii. I love the pin upy vibe of this piece AND of course the fact that there's donuts and purple hearts in it. What's not to love?

Little Demons of Inspiration by Simona Candini
I actually just discovered this artist yesterday! She has really cute doll like characters with lots of pop culture influence. Obviously the first thing I fell for was the blue/purple hair!

And again, the hair is what did it for me. This girl always makes the prettiest illustrations of alternative girls with rainbow hair.

This girl kept popping up everywhere I went, so I had to check her out! I love how she created a whole new world of her own with whimsical characters.

And last but not least, this adorable vintage looking pop artsy illustration of Minnie with a record player. I'm in love.. This guy has some really cool tattoo inspired work!

Art Process: Fat Unicorn

Hi everyone! I know it's been a while. I was just feeling really uninspired lately and didn't want to force myself into writing a post that then wasn't going to be interesting to read anyway. But today, the inspiration came back! I've been working on some designs and thought it might be fun to give you a look at my usual process. I personally always love to see how other artists work :) 

My ideas usually just come to me randomly. Usually when I'm showering, working out or lying in bed! This idea came to me after lunch, when I for some reason felt like drawing a fat unicorn. Preferably eating a rainbow. Because, WHY NOT!?

Even though I enjoy working digitally lately, I ALWAYS sketch with pencil on paper first. Nothing beats paper and pencil. It allows you to create organic lines and to just be rough and messy until you get the composition right. This sketch actually went quite smoothly and I sketched it all out in about 10 minutes with the help of some pictures of horses lying down.

I'm usually too lazy to hook up my laptop to the scanner, so I take a picture of it with my phone and send it to my computer and import it into illustrator! Then it's just a matter of tracing with the pen tool. First time I did this, about 3 years ago, I was terrible and hated using it. Now it's second nature. Practise makes (almost) perfect!

So this is what it looks like then. A line drawing with a bunch of lines that seem to be out of place. But no worries! This will all be solved when the colouring begins.

For colouring I usually pick a few basic colours that go well together and go from there with different shades etc. These are the colours I picked for this drawing.

Colouring is the most fun to me! It's when it really all starts coming together. I usually leave the background either a light yellow or grey colour and then see what looks best in the end..

The final touches are making the lines a little more fancy, adding detail likes lines in the tail and mane and then picking a background colour + lining it up so it's nice and centered.

And that's pretty much it! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out :) You can find this piece now in my Redbubble store! Hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak into my process!

Recent Work: Pears & Roses

Like every other artist I'm still looking for my 'signature' style. I just can't seem to stick to one way of working. Sometimes I feel like something colorful and cute, the other day black and white and dark. One day I want to make something simple, the other day some elaborate collage. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but for now I just create whatever I feel like. I think the only way to find your signature is by just creating as much as possible. Anything your creative mind comes up with. Don't worry about it too much :) Here's two things my mind came up with this week..

I made sketches for this cute 'pear' a year ago but was never happy with the outcome so I decided to work on it again this week! I really like it now!

This floral drawing I randomly came across in my old files and I was surprised I never used it for anything. So I made a pattern out of it!

Recent work: lots of tea, please!

All of you should know by now that I'm a huge tea lover, both drinking it and inspiration wise. I love to look at pretty tea sets and draw them.. or even 'paint' with tea! It should come as no surprise that my latest artworks are a complete tea overload.

I've been feeling a little uninspired lately (hence the lack of new work) but I'm thinking of doing more fifties/retro themed things. It always helps me to stick to a theme when I'm stuck :)
