Busy, busy bunny.

Thanks to Easter there's an extra long, very welcome, weekend. School is quite crazy right now. Two days in a row I got comments on my work about how it's too cute and sweet and only appropiate for Hello Kitty world. Now honestly, I wish I lived in Hello Kitty world. No seriously, who wouldn't want to live in a world like this???
*__*
Anyway, it started to frustrate the hell out of me because since the beginning of the semester I've been working very hard to get out my 'other side'. Everyone has a dark side, right? I love creepy, macabre and dark stuff (preferably mixed with some cuteness), but for some reason find it very hard to let it find a way into my work.

I feel like I'm getting on the right track now though. Checking out old punk posters and listening to the new Alkaline Trio album (which is amazing, as always) definitely helps. Below is a quartets game I'm working on for illustration, inspired by tarot cards and superstition.
Bunny is nomming!
And this is a work in progress for a baseball card. It's a competition, but I think my odds of winning are pretty low. But I don't really care. As long as I'm having fun designing I'm happy!
Vicious baseball girl!
So yeah, that's what I've been and still will be busy with for the next couple of days. But I don't mind because it's still freezing cold anyway. I wouldn't mind cuddling with lots of easter bunnies right now though c: Happy Easter weekend everyone!

  1. People often complain about that 'your work is too cute' or 'your work is too dark', that happened to me in school, were I mostly worked on dark stuff and when I finally made sth cuter my teacher was like O.O We're made to do what we love most, not what others think we should do ^^
    The tarot cards rock! <3
Have a great easter week-end, here in spain we have holidays from the 22nd to the 2nd of April. I hope you enjoy your holidays!

  2. @Alexandra True! But I do feel like I wouldn't be satisfied with my work if I would only continue with making cute things, without a concept or like.. a second layer. It's just this constant battle in your head of wanting to grow but not being able to. And then with this it's also very crucial to figure that out quickly because I've got to keep producing for school and get sufficient grades!

But thanks n.n I'm also very happy with how the cards are coming along!

Hope you have a great holiday! Doing anything special? Or just eating lots of chocolate eggs hehe? c:

  4. @Alexandra Lol yay for fun procrastination! I haven't got much planned either. My only mission is to find the same delicious chocolate eggs I had last year.

  6. Your work is amazing! I think you should stick with the theme you naturally are attracted to. You can even do something cute but that has a hidden darker meaning without using a darker palette. I also admire you for going to art school because I feel like its risky but if you have the passion for it, go for it!!
