Lollipop Planets and a colorful Addams Family.

I'm being quite a terrible blogger, and I apologize for that. Here is a tiny little art update for you guys though! This morning we had to do a last minute mural with silver markers around the theme 'The Sky's the Limit'. I made a Lollipop Planet. Obviously. Here's a picture of the progress...
Another last minute assignment I had to work on was a mascot for a bookstore. I suck at character design, so I just re-used one of my old characters.

It's not super duper amazing, but it's still a flying fox with cat eye glasses that can read. So that's good enough for me. Also, totally off topic but totally awesome: I came across this  picture of the Addams Family set in color
How cool is that!? I would go live there in a heartbeat.

I hope you all started November off well! Don't let the early darkness get you down. Lots of love.

We are pleased to inform you...

Aaaahh! Finally the answer I had been waiting for for so long! I got accepted to MICA in Baltimore, Maryland which means I will get to study illustration for about 4 months in the USA. And I won't be going alone because my dear friend Alette got accepted too! Double awesomeness!

Some of you may not know this, but after I graduated from high school I went to New York by myself and travelled around the east coast area and all the way up to Niagara Falls.

But Baltimore definitely stood out for me, and after finding out they even had an art school I didn't want to leave! But I had to eventually to not risk being banned from America FOREVER. Since then it had been my dream to go back there and study illustration. That's already over three years ago!

And now it's finally happening! Well, there's still a lot of business (a.k.a boring paper work) to be taken care of. I've got to fill out forms on what kind of music I like (and how loud), if I would describe myself nerdy or not and if I ever use marijuana. Okay, and some more 'serious' official stuff. But I got accepted! Aaah!
What a way to start my fall break. If I can even call it a break now because now I have ALL this stuff to take care off. But I'm not complaining. Have a lovely weekend!! I promise that soon I will be back with longer and more interesting posts n.n

My life is all about art and fun mail.

I'm SO ready for a break, and a shopping spree, and travels to far off places, and a bath filled with candy corn. But nope, I can't have any of that yet. And it sucks. But let's move on to positive stuff now!

Yesterday I had a portfolio night, which basically means everybody sets up their own little table with their work and people/businesses come to check out your work. It was a little scary, but a great experience to have people other than my mom tell me they really like my work. This was my little set up (the pink half, obviously):
I lovelovelove my brand new purple portfolio! Normally portfolios are black or white or whatever, but then I found this one and it was love at first sight. I later found out they also have it in pink, but I was already head over heals in love with this one that I couldn't really care less that the pink version was already sold out everywhere. This was the very first time I put together a 'professional' portfolio and I felt pretty damn good putting everything together. Like I got over another big hump in my illustration journey. One step at a time c:

Feeling a little 'meh' today since the last school days have been pretty intense. But my dear friend Alex came to the rescue with one of her amazing packages!!
Too much goodness in one parcel n.n
I loved the Nightmare before Christmas figurines she sent me!
Here is Sally posing with some delicious smelling gells.

This was kind of a short post, but I'll probably have more to talk about when my fall break starts! Hope you're having a wonderful Thursday!

Love, Happiness and Sushi on the Wall.

So much stuff going on! I seriously feel like I'm running to the end of the week every day. I can't believe it's Friday already tomorrow. Even though it causes high anxiety and slight freak outs, I atleast don't have to feel useless or lazy or whatever, which is good! Still haven't heard anything from MICA yet though T.T

Last weekend I did finally get to see my new little baby nephew! He is such a cutie n.n

Lately I hadn't been feeling too awesome and got really grouchy and closed off. Then I decided to make these little positive and inspiring notes and to leave them at random places for others to find. Because it's true: spreading happiness will bring you happiness!

I have no idea if people will even find them, or care, or that they'll just be thrown away. But just the thought that it'll make even one person smile is good enough for me c:

And yes.. ART ART ART. It never stops! But that's good! I'm still working on my personal Halloween paintings that I will probably post somewhere this weekend if I can find the time n.n

Sketching and collaging and lots of cute tapes! Oh, and cat heads.

Today we finally got to do the mural! I'm so happy with my sushi L! It did make me very hungry though... Everyone did such a great job on the letters and I think it looks really awesome!

And finally, a little box I decorated. It's a dutch pastry called a tompouce, and it's delicious. I'll be giving it to a Dutch company I want to do my internship at. In it is my letter with a matching pattern on the back illustrated by me, and my business card + button.

Phew. That was a lot. And another week to go until fall break... Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Small update: business cards and anxiousness.

Hi guys! I've basically been living like a hermit again lately. Working on school. Eating entire bags of chocolate covered hazelnuts. It's not even like we have a massive amount of stuff to do for school. It's just that I feel bad whenever I don't work on school. Or just when I'm not being creative in whatever way. But in return, I don't start feeling well when I'm inside all day (trying) to work either. I just don't know.
Random sketching for illustration class
I also finally handed in everything for my possible exchange with MICA last Monday and now I'll basically be dying all month waiting for their reply. If they don't accept me... I don't know what will happen. I'm not going to shut up about this until I hear from them.

Talking about school.. for a class I had to start designing business cards. And geez, it's SO hard to capture yourself and your work into one teeny tiny card. But I think I'm getting somewhere. I need feedback though! Do you like? Not like? What should I change? What colors are better? I personally like the pink/purple colorway best. Oh and if someone has magic powers to make my handwritten typography look a bit better, please step forward c: Eventually I'd like to update my blog with a design that matches the card, but I'll get on that later..
Front and back of card in two colorways :)
Another design with different typography
Not much else to talk about. I just got to start doing fun stuff again. I'm just scared and anxious about so many things right now. Hope everyone is doing well though :)

Art update: heaven or hell?

A little 'art' update again n.n For class we had to design two posters. First we had to pick either heaven or hell. Guess which one I picked! Then we had to make one design depicting a 'cliche' heaven, and a 'personal' heaven. I decided to go for a collage technique and to try and make both designs work well both seperately as well as a whole. Of course my personal heaven had to include pizza angels, John Cusack/Lloyd Dobler, gummy bears and cat unicorns.

Once I got both of them printed, I also added some glitter to the cliche one to make it even more over the top!
This assignment was a lot of fun! It was maybe even more fun to see everyone else's final pieces. I was pretty insecure about my final work, since I'm a noob in photoshop and I felt lazy just putting pictures together. But I got positive feedback! Yay! Hope you enjoyed c:

The official beginning of summer freedom!

Another school year done!! I don't know how I made it, but I did. Yesterday we had final presentations in an abnormally hot classroom, which isn't ideal when you're nervous and sweating up a storm because of that already. But we had ice cream!
My little corner with some of my favorite things I made this year.
Mini zombie and kitty, just chillin'

They hardly had any negative feedback at all and seemed very pleased going through all of my stuff. It's incredibly nice to hear people have really seen you grow as an artist after working so hard. I don't think I could've taken too much criticism anymore at this point! Your work being judged and graded all the time can be a very tiring and draining process, but I guess it pays off in the end!

And some random pictures...
OMG these biscuits. I could eat them all day long. They are mango flavored and simply the best thing ever.
I've been playing with my new phone way more than I should be. I do have to say that I think the camera on it is crappy. I'll just stick to my usual ones. I approve of my current lockscreen background though.
So now summer has officially started for me! This Friday I will be going to The Ardennes with most of my family for a week, which I am both excited and anxious about. I'm very attached to my usual routine, the food I eat, my exercise and my peace and quiet and it's going to be challenging to stick with that for a week when you're surrounded by others (of which 6 kids) all the time.

Especially food and exercise are two things I know are going to be a problem. I feel like I'm always made fun of whenever I say I prefer eating mostly fruits and veggies and need to work out. Lots of people in my family can't imagine a dinner without potatoes or pasta or whatever and consider working out only as something for people who need to loose weight. But it energizes me and keeps me from feeling down and/or having unbearable anxiety. I'm gonna try..

I'm also planning on taking lots of (instax) pictures! And just enjoy the present moment as much as possible. I feel like I've been 'living for the future' for way too long now. Enjoying the here and now is still something I need to work on. Sounds like it's going to be one hell of a spiritual summer :P

Lemony, Flirty and Sushi.

Another picture post just because I feel like it! It all of a sudden got super duper hot here and I'm having kind of a love/hate relationship with it right now. Walking around in the city now is almost unbearable, but it does lend itself for delicious ice cream and other summery treats n.n

I got some random stuff the other day. Hello Kitty biscuits, Lush's Lemony Flutter (love!!), a sample of Lush imperialis face cream (which I MUST get once I run out of my usual one), my favorite incense and some Moroccan Argan oil for my hair (and I'm now obsessed with that stuff, it's soooooo good for my dry ends!)
Goodies!
The holy Lemony Flutter.
Made some delicious avocado/egg/cucumber sandwiches n.n
Omnomnomnom.
I also finally got all the stuff I needed to start printing my shirts! I used transfers for now, but seeing everything come alive got me really excited to continue working on t-shirt designs and find ways to get them printed in higher quality <3 br="">
Labels for my shirts from the magical sewing machine!
Cutting all day every day.
Quick sushi dinner ^.^
First top done!
All tops are done now, but I'm going to try doing a little photoshoot with them before sharing all of them. Have a great weekend!!
