Must Watch Movie: Take This Waltz

Every once in a while, there is a movie that just touches your heart. Or maybe even gives it a good punch. One of those movies that is still stuck in your head the next morning you wake up and you walk down the street, subconciously mulling it all over once more.

Take This Waltz is one of those movies for me. It's very bittersweet. It's cute, it's brutal, it's honest. It has Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen. I know a lot of people who can't stand Seth Rogen, but I think he's really great. It's beautiful visually. The interiors and clothes and everything is so pretty.

In short IMDB says: 'A happily married woman falls for the artist who lives across the street.' Which might sound boring and totally predictable. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Guess you'll have to find out for yourself!

I do recommend not watching any of the trailers for it because they basically ruin all the good parts in the movie. Like trailers always do. Just trust me on this one, okay?

Monday's Movie: Moonrise Kingdom

Obviously, I had to do this post today because of all the M's. And also just because I watched this movie last night and it stole my heart!

"A pair of young lovers flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them."

People have been raving about it to me for months and now I see why. Words can not describe... I mean, it already looks pretty amazing right? Now combine that with the best acting, awesome storyline, the best outfits, a cute little cat and just every other single thing about this movie. One big movie made of amazingness.

Yeah but seriously, go watch it. And if you already have, go watch it again OR take a look at the interactive version of the Moonrise Kingdom script (which takes a long time to load but that's totally worth it). Also, this movie makes me excited for spring and summer! So I can wear cute collared dresses, carry around picnic baskets and go on adventures.

The Sure Thing

Out of nowhere some kind of weird sickness has hit me which has kept me from going to school these past two days. I hate it, because I don't like missing out on classes. Especially with all these new assignments happening. I am unable to just do absolutely nothing without feeling like a worthless student, and I don't like that either. But you know, I had to give in and just sleep and once I was done doing that I decided to watch this movie:

The Sure Thing

I'm trying to see every single movie John Cusack has been in. I like the ones from the 80s best though (Better of Dead, Say Anything, Sixteen Candles). I had yet to watch 'The Sure Thing' because honestly, the poster and title kind of put me off.

But I knew I'd have to watch it eventually since it includes a roadtrip AND a really cute 19 year old John Cusack. So I did watch it. And it was awesome. I still can't get over the greatness of this scene.

I feel like now was the perfect time to watch it, too, because I'm starting to get stuck in this rut of 'appropiateness' again and it's killing me. I want to be more spontaneous! I want to go on crazy roadtrips! I've been browsing plane tickets for months now, but still havent had the guts to just book a damn ticket and go somewhere. Okay anyway, one more scene I want to share and then just go watch it yourself!

Talking about babynames.. I became an auntie again! Welcome Julia :) I can't wait to see you!

Annabel Lee

I just finished watching 'The Raven' and the scene where Emily quotes Annabel Lee was my absolute favorite. Up until now I never realized just how beautiful the poem is. The movie itself wasn't all that bad (I read quite some bad reviews on it), but maybe that's just because, to me, John Cusack playing Edgar Allan Poe was already a dream come true.

Like I said in my last post I had sent out some postcards the other day, and today I got this super cute card from my sister! And it also came with some drawings by my baby nephew. I love getting drawings from kids.

Baking Ninja sugar cookies
I got these ninja cookie cutters for my redditgifts secret santa swap, but still hadn't used them! I was procrastinating really bad and even decided to make sugar cookies just so I wouldnt have to do my homework. This recipe is amazing. All ninjas disappeared really quickly, like ninjas should. I used this recipe for them, and it's the best I've used so far!

Quinoa with veggies + tomato sauce and fresh basil

I don't know what it is about this combo, but it's absolutely delicious. I just cut up random fresh veggies, cook some quinoa, throw it all together in a pan with some tomato sauce and top it off with some fresh basil. Honestly, the smell of fresh basil has made me feel very happy lately. It's amazing.

Watching movies

Recently I've been more into... violent movies. Maybe even a bit gorey. I'm not big on nasty horror movies where they do all this... nasty stuff. But I don't mind some gunshots or a little (okay maybe more than a little)
bleeding. So these movies aren't for the faint hearted c:

God Bless America
Grace talked about this on her blog and it looked so awesome I watched it as soon as I had the chance. I was not disappointed. It was amazing. If you're ever annoyed with all those stupid people in the world, just go watch this movie and you'll feel much better.

Red State
This was recommended to me like... ever since it came out. Lots of 'Noooooooo!' moments. In a way it's a very frustrating and nerve wrecking movie, but in a 'healthy' way. The end was my favorite (and not because the movie had ended lol)

Winter's Bone
In my opinion this is like Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen before the Hunger Games came out. It's a great movie. A little disturbing at times, but I personally liked that. It's what they call an 'indie movie' so it's not for everyone.

Just once I want my life to be like an 80's movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life. 

 Ever since 'Must Love Dogs' was on tv a couple of days ago, I've been having a mini movie marathon with John Cusack movies. I have a huge weakness for him. You don't even know. I had never seen Say Anything (see picture above and below) before, but after watching it this morning it is now, hands down, one of my favorite movies.

Then we also got High Fidelity, Serendipity and Being John Malkovich. Just to name a few of my favorites. I have yet to watch The Raven, but I'm so scared it'll be a disappointment so I keep putting it off. But who am I even kidding? Just John Cusack playing Edgar Allan Poe is like a dream come true, no matter what the movie is like. I don't know what it is about that man..

Going the Distance

***I am just going to make a post about this movie because it's one of the best romcoms I have seen so far.

There I was in the train, just minding my own business, until suddenly a random idea popped up in my head. I had to watch Going the Distance once I got home (and prepare some noodles obviously because I was hungry as hell). Do you guys ever get that? That your mind just suddenly comes up with something you just have to do, like buy a pint of Ben and Jerry's strawberry cheesecake and eat it until you're sick or obviously watch a movie you hardly know anything about.

I have to say my mind has great ideas though. Very great ideas. This movie is freaking incredible. It was also a pleasant surprise that Charlie Day was in it too. I mean come on, why don't you ever see baby pigeons in the city? No but it made me laugh like a crazy person and cry all at the same time and when a movie can do that to you it's good in my eyes. And it obviously included travelling again. I love travel/roadtrip movies so this one had to be right up my alley. But you should all just go watch it.

To slightly inform you on what it's about (if you couldn't guess already) I have three words: 

long distance relationship.

Movie Night

***Last night was movie night. It started off with me watching Kick Ass again after finally getting it on dvd and then, afterwards, randomly watching tv and coming across two really weird but quite enjoyable movies..

Idiocracy: Private Joe Bauers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive.

Be Kind Rewind: A man whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films.

The first one had Maya Rudolph in it, the second one Jack Black. Which was my excuse for watching both of them. Tonight there are more interesting ones coming up! I feel like such a movie geek..

Now I'm going to spray paint the awesome frame I got for my favorite picture of me as a kid ever. It includes a watergun.
