Sarah and the Pink Plexiglas Adventures!

Hello from me and a cup of lemonpie tea! Another art related blogpost, yay! Remember Flirty Tiki? The designing stage is over now, and today I finally got to make my plexiglas labels! I was super duper nervous and just really hoped everything would go right the first time without drama or my fingers getting cut off by a laser. Aaaaanndd.. everything went awesome! They turned out even better than I had hoped and I might want to make a gazillion things out of Plexiglas now.
Pretty pretty! They still need some cleaning though ^^"
In my opinion they also make an awesome necklace! Or maybe a keychain. Double score!
oh hai.
Pink and sparkly n.n
I made a whole batch of them, some of which will be attatched to t-shirt I'll be printing somewhere next week. I might sell some of them, or use them as gifts for friends. I'm still so excited! I wish I was super rich and had a super big house so I could have a lasercutter at home, but for now, school will do just fine c: More updates on the shirts etc. probably somewhere later next week!

Art post: theater burger

Thank you guys SO MUCH for all the sweet reactions on my hair  It really means a lot to me! I still can't stop raving about it. Best thing I've done for myself in a long time :)
Anyway, school still goes on! I can't believe we only have a little more than one more month of classes left. Lots of stuff to get done, FUN STUFF, but it's a lot. Today I wanted to share some characters I've designed for my illustration class! They're supposed to represent various categories for an art event/competition for teenagers. Designing for an age like that is the worst, because it can't be too childish, but not too boring either.
Categories: language, fashion, dance, theater, music, movies, expo, DJ.
I have no idea why there is a theater burger in there (maybe because it rhymes?). I might have to change that one. Or not. I don't know. I have them in a couple of colorways, but I think I like this one best!

I'm starting to like illustrator way too much. Sometimes I hate it, because it's so much harder to make your work unique and personal when working digitally. But it's also just so much easier. Some people complain about 'characters' looking way too much alike these days, and I do think there's definitely a trend going on. But I like this trend and don't mind being a part of it. It's what people like right now, so better take advantage of it, right? I make what I like, and if you don't like it, then don't look at it! Or just dance around like you don't even care!

Hair Happy Dance!

I present to you... my new hair! Aaaah I'm so excited!

This was the best hairdresser experience I've had BY FAR. Normally it would take days for me to get used to a new haircut, but now I want it to stay this way forever! They made it all nice and pretty and straightened it for me. I don't want to find out just yet what it'll look like when I've washed my hair and I'll have to style it myself though.. I'm gonna need a proper straightener.

The lady who cut my hair (and had pink hair herself too!) chopped off quite a lot. I was horrified when I looked at the floor halfway through and saw all that hair. I think it was a good thing I wasn't sitting in front of a mirror. When she was done and I got to check out my new hair, I was shocked. In the best way possible. I looked so different! Finally it's light and soft again. I feel like my head has been making a happy dance ever since. I'm definitely getting my hair cut on a regular basis now c:

A post with tea and cats is always good.

My anxiety level is pretty high these days due to school, things in our house breaking down and other stuff going on. One moment I'm all relaxed and ok, next moment there's a gigantic knot in my stomach and insecurity hits me in the face like a wrecking ball. Like right now. So, I'm making a little list with things to be excited about.

Things I'm excited about:

Getting a haircut
Confession: I haven't had a decent haircut in at least THREE years. Last time I got it cut, it was cut super duper short and I felt misserable for at least a couple of months. It was horrible. But I've decided to face my fears and just GO, since I've been saying for months now how I need to get a haircut (and it's starting to annoy me that people constantly tell me I should..)

I'm terrified. Yes. This hairdresser I'm going to this Saturday has NO Mirrors, also serves as a art expo space and everyone just sits at a long table to get their hair did. I give them all my trust.I don't want anything radical, just a nice cut that doesn't look like I put a pink dustball on my head. Wish me luck.

Japanese Soda
I never drink soda, but I couldn't pass this one up! I actually got the strawberry one sometime ago already, but I also wanted to try the melon flavor n.n it's very sweet and fizzy and tastes of cute! And most importantly: the bottles make for nice decoration c:

New tea
My roommate recommended this tea to me, and I absolutely love it! It's green tea with a twist. It's nice and soft, fresh and definitely energizing!

Our cats making new friends
My dad is away, so our cats are staying with our neighbor for a little while, and they made a new feathery friend! How cute is that!?

Asking for help
I suck at asking for help. I always have. But I feel like I'm learning. The other day at school I openly told my teacher how I just got completely stuck with an assignment and he was very nice and understanding and helped me a whole lot to figure it out and get me moving again! And today I also asked my classmates about some stuff and it took away a lot of anxiety. I don't know if I will be able to keep this up, but I sure hope so...

I think that's about it for now.. What are you excited about?

Sunday's Song: Nana ♥

Today I went to a Japanese Market and while stopping at every stall marvelling at all the adorable (and delicious) things, my eye also caught some Nana manga. Unfortunately I couldn't get anything because I'm broker than broke, but I was instantly reminded of this beautiful song and have been listening to it  again non-stop ever since. It always makes me want to cry, not only because it reminds me of Nana itself but also because of the beautiful lyrics.

Travel to the moon
The dream where you first appeared fades out
The light of the star, I longed for is taken away
The smile I had to forget in order to be strong,
For sure if we're together, we can take it back

Open your eyes
I'm here waiting for you
Even if the future is different from now
I'm here waiting for you
I keep on screaming
I'm sure all I have to do
Is pull in the thread that connects our hearts
So the person I was back then
Would open her eyes
No need to cry

Travel in silence
I can reach you if I stretch out my hands
The only memory I have of you
Is so far away

Aaaah and look at these cute Nana cosplays! ♥

Nana's cosplayed by Zerotaros and 小松奈々.
I want to go to Japan so badly again now (not like I usually don't feel like that..)! And I want to cosplay! And I want to make more friends who are interested in Japanese pop culture. Whenever I go to a Japanese themed event (markets, concerts etc.) everyone is always so nice. I was so jealous of everyone's awesome costumes and gorgeous dresses. There was actually someone who wanted to take a picture of me, but honestly, I felt super dull and uninteresting compared to all those cosplayers and lolita girls (ノ◕﹏◕)ノ

Japan, I love you.

Art post: Flirty Tiki

A little art update! For a class we have to design t-shirts + labels/tags/anything else you want to include. I wish we could do this assignment over and over again, I have so many ideas for this! But for now, I decided to continue with tiki masks combined with fun patterns, pineapples and flirtiness, resulting in:
Kissy kissy!
It's kind of random, but I just felt like making something silly! The idea is to actually get some of the designs printed, and I reeeaaallly want to make some tags out of plexiglass with a lasercutter (so you could also wear it as a necklace!). Please let me know what you think!

Dear Diary: My diaries and how to start writing yourself!

Pretty in Pink!
One of my favorite things is starting in a new diary. Going into town to find that one perfect notebook I'll be writing all my deepest secrets in for the next few months. Writing the date on that first fresh page, and then just writing away until my mind is completely empty.

I've been keeping diaries ever since I was a little girl. I got my first one from my grandmother. It was blue with a big yellow sun on it and a lock. I had no idea what to do with it and had my mom explain to me I could write in it about what I did that day, or write stories and secrets or just.. ANYTHING. I started writing in it, and basically never stopped. It started with stuff like:

I think I'm in love with my teddybear!
or
I didn't brush my teeth tonight and dad didn't even notice!
or
My best friend pushed me off of the skippyball today and now she's stupid.

I'm not making any of these up.
I like my diaries cute and sparkly.
Lots of people don't understand how I can write in my diary every single day. And honestly, I dont really know either. It's just... routine, I guess? I need it. It calms me down and of course let's not forget about how much fun it is to read all of it back later. So many things you just forget about... crushes, obsessions, school drama, dreams, nightmares. I also like to stick in tickets, receipts, packaging, stickers etc. that remind me of stuff that happened at the time. It makes it all that much more fun to read them later.
Of course there's a Hello Kitty diary in there too.
So maybe you want to start a diary too, but you have no idea where to start!?
I've got some tips to help you get started:

1. Get a pretty diary
Obviously, actually getting a diary is pretty important. Get a pretty one that you're actually going to want to write in! I never get the same kind of journal. You are always changing, so it only makes sense your diary does too. You can also get a plain notebook and decorate it yourself with tape or stickers. Once I have the right diary in my hands, I just know right away. Like love at first sight c:

2. Get good a pen...
...and keep it with your diary. Nothing is more frustrating than having to look for a pen, or writing with one that writes crappy.

3. Set a time
Look at your day to day schedule and figure out a time you'll always have some time to write. Try to stick to this time. Once you keep it up for a long time, it'll just start to become part of your daily routine. I always write before I go to sleep, because then I get to process and straighten everything out that happened that day and I can get to sleep better.

4. Start small
Most people don't feel like filling up three pages right from the start, and of course this isn't necessary at all! Dont force yourself to write more than you actually want. Just start with a line, or a word even. Or stick something in of that day if you dont feel like writing. Or you can only write once a week!

5. Dont be shy
This is the awesome thing about diaries: nobody ever has to read it but you (if you're worried about someone possibly getting their hands on your diary, make sure you store it in a safe place).
Diaries from when I was still kind of in my emo phase.
Do you keep a diary? Or are you planning on starting one now? Happy writing!

Friday Loves: Amazing Ladies and Kitties

Friday Loves...

Vans x Hello Kitty Summer 2013 collection!
To me this is one of the most perfect collaborations ever. I'd love to get my hands on some apparel or that super cute tote bag! Since I think owning two pairs of Hello Kitty shoes in enough for now...

Gwen Stefani rocking this outfit
I think she's one of the very few women who can pull this look off...
This woman is amazing and so incredibly cute! “Don’t hang out with people who make you feel less than amazing.

Katy Perry: Part of Me Movie
And since we're talking about amazing women... I watched the Katy Perry movie yesterday and omg.. it's amazing. I don't now why I haven't watched it sooner. It never came to theaters here and I think at a certain point I had just forgotten about it. Go watch it for instant inspiration!

This quote
Because it's the truth.

The Art of Being Choco Moo – Interview & Live Painting in Tokyo

This video is so inspirational, too! I can really relate to her story, especially the part where she talks about how something 'opened up' for her when she visited the United States. And I adore her art.

And of course a gif of some kitties working out.
Because how else can you end a post with so much love?

Stay Cute & Don't Worry.

For some reason the past couple of days my life has been filled with even more cuteness than usual, and I'm typing this with a Bubblegum facial on my face, watching Katy Perry: Part of Me and painting my nails pink with sparkles. The cuteness must go on!
I get criticized a lot for liking cute stuff, sometimes so much that I start doubting myself and feel stupid. But in the end, cute stuff makes me so happy! And I think people who think being a grown up and being a respectable, serious person means not being able to get excited about kid stuff/cuteness/etc. are missing out on a lot. Don't take life so seriously, seriously. But anyway! At least my mom supports my love for everything cute entirely and she got me these little knick-knacks from a little Asian gift shop she randomly came across. She knows me too well.
Cuties looking like they're up to no good.
Kitties! I actually enjoy Hello Kitties that are a little 'off', like the left one. Dare to be different!
Recently I won a giveaway from Takara Town, and today the package arrived! Any box with Hello Kitty stickers on it can get me excited. And when I opened the box, it had some Japanese newspaper pages in it! This got me excited already, and this was only the packaging.
Strawberry sweetness
The package contained an adorable re-ment set called 'Merry Strawberry'. This was actually my very first re-ment set, and I think I'm hooked now. I mean, look at that miniature cake, and ice cream..! Jenny was also very sweet and added the little led lamp disguised as a precious cake with bows on it (lower left) because the package got sent a little later. I love it!
The re-ment put together. Isn't it precious?
Thank you Jenny! It really made my day c: Anyone who's interested in the re-ment now too, can find it here. I wish I could collect ALL the re-ments in the world *__* I hope everyone is having a great day!

Healthy Hawaii Pizza!

My favorite kind of pizza to eat during the summertime is Hawaii pizza. It's just so deliciously fruity and tropical. But since I'm all about healthy and clean eating, pizza isn't really the kind of thing I eat on a regular basis, UNTIL NOW. I experimented in the kitchen for a bit and came up with a HEALTHY HAWAII PIZZA! What!? Yes. Trust me, it's delicious!
Tropical pizza goodness
I used the healthy pizza crust from Blogilates as a base. For this you need:
- 1/4 cup of dry oats
- 1 TBS ground flax seed (if you dont have that, just use flower! It worked fine for me)
- 1 egg

What you need for the toppings:
- 4 TBS of tomato sauce of your choice (I used one with basil)
- some (fresh) pineapple chopped in small pieces
- some shredded chicken breast
- any kind of low-fat cheese or cottage cheese
- some dried italian herbs to taste!

♥ Mix everything for the crust together and spread it thinly over a tin pan or a pizza plate. Place it in the oven at 350F for about 20-15 min until firm.

♥ Once crust is firm, take it out and slather tomato sauce on it.

♥ Then top it with your pineapple, chicken breast and of course some of that delicious cheesy goodness!

♥ Put it back in the oven at 350F for about another 15 min until it's nice and hot!

♥ Cut and enjoy the entire thing! Yes, just eat that entire delicious pizza. Omnomnom!

Of course you can top the amazing healthy pizza Blogilates base with anything you want. I can't wait to try out lots of other delicious combos n.n

Luau parties and hipster strawberries

Hello lovelies! My week long break has unfortunately come to an end already, but it was sooooo good. Being able to take my mind off of school for a bit definitely helped me and I am SO ready for the last few weeks. I can't believe my 2nd year at school is almost over already, but I don't mind it one bit!
Anyway, here are a couple of recent pictures I took of drawings and food (because that's basically what my life consists of as you might know by now). Right now it seems like I'm trying to make all of my assignments summer themed. That's probably because all I can dream of right now are tropical beaches, fruit and luau parties. I am craving pineapple/chicken anything right now, or a hawaii pizza. Omnomnom! Maybe I'm gonna try and create a clean and healthy version of that. Yes, sounds like a perfect plan.

Strawberry/vanilla ice cream with white chocolate and strawberry sauce treat on a hot spring day!
My first real try with typography. That stuff is HARD.
Pineapple and strawberries! Did you know there are pineapple strawberries? What!?
More typography experiments. Pineapples! Watermelons!
Sunday Funday delicious cheesy salami pizza!
Got a new mint plant. Hope I can keep this one alive...
Hipster triangle strawberries!
Hope everyone is doing well! The only thing that makes me really sad right now is that I'm going to have to live without warm water for an entire week! Our boiler broke down and we were very lucky it didn't catch fire and burned the entire house down. So I'm very thankful that didn't happen and it's probably going to make me appreciate a working shower even more.
